There are several different incision patterns and techniques used in breast lift surgery , each of which is suited to different types of patients and desired results. If you are considering having surgery to lift your breasts , educate yourself well on the options available to you, and consult with several surgeons about which technique they might recommend for you before making up your mind. The incision is made around the perimeter of the areola, vertically down from the areola to the breast crease and horizontally along the breast crease, known as an anchor incision. This technique produces the most scarring and is suitable for women with a severe degree of sagging who will not be helped sufficiently by less invasive techniques. Vertical scar techniques like the anchor incision are best suited when smaller volumes of skin and internal tissues are to be removed, resulting in shorter scars and a reduced risk of puckering and indentations.

After you are awakened and brought into the recovery room following your breast reduction surgery , the recovery nurse will monitor your vital stats until you are ready to be released. This is dependent upon the individual but may take up to two hours or more. You will feel quite tender and possibly confused as the anesthesia wears off. If you feel any discomfort you may want to ask for a pain reliever, which you will more than likely have been asked to bring with you. You may even feel emotional or upset, depending on body's reaction to anesthesia.
